GUEST SPEAKER
Ellen Newton Driscoll was born in Mt Vernon,
Illinois, on July 7th, 1958. She attended high school in Anna, Illinois,
graduating in 1976 And marrying shortly thereafter. After nine years of
marriage, she found herself the single parent of Michael, age two and Cody, a
newborn. Returning to the workplace, she found little time for writing until her
nephew, Kevin was born. Together, she and Kevin played “dragons” on the floor
for hours And Ellen began writing a story about Prince Kevin and his dragon,
“Fire.”
The story was all but forgotten for some years until Ellen found it again and
after some changes, submitted the manuscript to WordWright. “The Dragons of
Candlewood” was published and released in June of 2006. Meanwhile, Ellen
completed book two of the series, “The Haunting of Candlewood,” which is now
under contract with WordWright and due to be released this year. Meanwhile,
Ellen is hard at work on book three, “The Legend of the Dragon Sword”, and
planning book four, as yet untitled.
In addition, she and her mother, Barbara Newton, have co-authored and published,
“When Christians Divorce”, a self-help book they hope will help others who find
themselves victims of divorce. They are working together on another book, based
on extended family living together under one roof. “Life in the Big House”
should be complete this year.
Ellen lives in a small Texas town and shares five acres with her husband, two
sons, parents, a border collie, cats, horse and donkey and two goats.
So far, no dragons.
