GUEST SPEAKER
Crystal Wood has worked as a professional graphics artist since high school,
which was not, she will readily admit, yesterday. Over the years she has honed
her skills by working as a staff layout artist for a newspaper and an
advertising agency, as the principal graphics artist for a printing company, and
even as publications director for a large metropolitan church. In 1994 she began
Tattersall Publishing as an independent small press, a book design outsource,
and a general graphic arts provider. In addition to books, Crystal designs and
contracts for production for everything from business cards to newsletters,
annual reports, catalogs, brochures, newsletters, and even T-shirts and other
advertising specialties. (And the occasional website, such as this one.)
Apart from the odd software seminar, Crystal has had no formal training in
graphic arts. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees in technical theater
and communications, always managing to work her natural ability for designing
printwork into those fields.
Crystal is also an editor and the author of three books published by Tattersall
Publishing: Outing the Cat Lady: Embracing Your Feline Addiction With Style
(forthcoming for Fall 2007), Fool's Joust, and Cut Him Out in Little Stars.
She has been married to George for almost 30 years. They have a daughter and
three grandchildren, and an assortment of cats who provide cheap entertainment
as well as inspiration for humorous books.
PROJECT FOR 2008
We will be our own anthology in 2008 as a Writer's League project. We will go through the the entire process: selection of a theme, assignment of jobs, submissions, acceptance and rejections, editing, cover art selection, formatting, printing, and marketing. The anthology will not have a specific theme.
