General meeting at 10:30 a.m.
Lunch at the Old Country Buffet at noon.

NEXT MEETING -- SATURDAY August 10, 2002

The guest speaker will be Mitchel Whitington.

Mitchel Whitington is the author of five books, a contributor to three short story anthologies, and his work has appeared in several national magazines and technical publications.  While promoting his work, Mitchel developed a formula for author press kits that he has taught to writers’ groups and conferences from California to Texas.  His latest book, Ghosts of North Texas, is scheduled for release in September of 2002.

Presentation:

“The Art of the Press Kit”

Authors will find precious few words of information on the subject of press kits.  This is unfortunate, because it is one of the most powerful weapons in a marketing arsenal.  This presentation will change all that, though, and teach the skills that are needed to hone a press kit into a promotional cruise missile.  Attendees will get first-hand information on what to include in a press kit, how to format the information, and finally, how to use it to their best advantage.  Fiction or non-fiction, technical or poetry, whether you’re currently starting a project or are in the middle of a promotional push for an existing book, you’ll find this information to be invaluable!
